CLOSE: Novaix Onyx Plays With Distance and Desire

Novaix Onyx’s CLOSE makes a strong case for the meeting point between UK garage, house and Korean pop. Built around brisk two-step percussion, a firm club kick and sharp organ-led bass, the track has a rolling, dancefloor-ready pulse without relying on a conventional drop. A recurring vocal phrase with a distinctly 90s feel gives the arrangement its identity, while the delivery shifts from relaxed sing-rap into rapid-fire rapping as the track reaches its most intense section.

The bilingual approach adds another layer, with English carrying most of the lyrics and Korean appearing throughout the hooks. Rather than ending with a dramatic payoff, CLOSE simply locks into its groove before cutting off abruptly, reinforcing the song’s theme of control and restraint.

As the title track of a six-song EP, CLOSE also introduces a wider concept built around words with contrasting meanings. Here, “close” suggests both proximity and shutting something away, reflecting lyrics about boundaries, access and control.

Onyx’s AI identity is also refreshingly transparent. The project openly distinguishes human songwriting and direction from generated vocals and visuals, making the music itself part of a broader conversation about emerging artist models.
