The Bastas Project Finds the Heartbeat in Love in the Groove

Love in the Groove, the new eight-track album from The Bastas Project, brings together family-rooted songwriting and a lively blend of funk, soul, Afrobeat-inspired grooves, and polished pop. Recorded in a home studio, the record balances accessible rhythms with lyrics focused on attraction, devotion, memory, regret, and the importance of expressing love before opportunities disappear.

The album’s appeal comes from its ability to make serious themes feel naturally at home within inviting arrangements. Gravity of Love uses a prominent bass groove, rhythmic guitar, percussion, and brass touches to turn romantic attraction into something physical and celebratory. Too Late for Words takes a more reflective direction, pairing a warm Afrosoul pulse with thoughts about aging, mortality, regret, and appreciation left unsaid.

Led by Alfred Basta, the project grows from a deeply personal family environment, with lived experiences providing much of its emotional perspective. The recording approach is deliberately lyric-centered, developing songs from simple foundations before layering expressive instrumentation and carefully controlled production.

Love in the Groove ultimately succeeds through contrast: it encourages movement while asking listeners to pause, reflect, and consider what truly deserves to be said while there is still time.
