New Sunday’s Here I Am Meant To Be Finds Meaning in the Melody

New Sunday’s fourth single, Here I Am Meant To Be, continues the project’s developing identity while revealing the deeply personal approach behind its songwriting. Led by Einar Askelsson, the track grows from a lyric-centered method in which words and their underlying story determine the musical direction.

Rather than beginning with a melody, Einar often draws from poems and experiences accumulated over the years, then builds chords, melodies and arrangements around the narrative. His use of music theory and Hookpad provides a practical framework for shaping each section, while leaving room for the vocalist and producer to bring their own ideas.

Lizzie’s vocals and Simon’s production complete the collaborative process, with the three working remotely and refining arrangements together. The result is another piece of New Sunday’s emerging sonic character, following Echoes In The Dark and The Empty Street without simply repeating them.

There is also a meaningful personal history behind the music. Einar turned to guitar and poetry during a difficult period of recovery, eventually transforming those creative outlets into songwriting. Here I Am Meant To Be reflects that long journey, combining storytelling, melody and collaboration into an increasingly distinctive project.
