Tivoli Boy revisits the dark beginnings of an ambitious musical journey with A Fairytale – Chapter One, an EP originally recorded in 1995. Released ahead of the forthcoming Chapter Four – Superstar, this early work offers a glimpse into the ideas that have shaped the artist’s creative evolution across three decades.
Emerging from the Norwegian underground, Tivoli Boy began as the frontman of Mental Illness, a school band influenced by the rebellious black metal movement of the early 1990s. However, inspiration from a death-prog band gradually redirected the music toward existential questions, apocalyptic visions, and the uneasy relationship between humanity, divinity, and the afterlife.

Chapter One captures a worldview steeped in darkness, imagining a universe seemingly abandoned by divine forces and destined for destruction. These themes establish the opening stage of a larger conceptual narrative that eventually moves toward a radically different possibility: paradise rather than eternal doom.
That transformation reaches its culmination with Chapter Four, scheduled for November 2026 through Teodor Music. The upcoming acoustic release, featuring nylon-string guitar and cello, promises a striking contrast to the project’s ominous origins. Together, these chapters trace an unusual artistic progression from despair toward hope, giving this archival release renewed relevance.
